Tooth Extraction by Our Experienced Dentists
The most common reasons for tooth extraction are to relieve pain from an infected tooth, to relieve crowding as well as sore and loose baby teeth. Most extractions can be managed by our dentists who are experienced in general extraction techniques. Our principal dentist, Bryan Dowse, has performed over 20 000 extractions during his career and mentored many dentists in the art of extraction.
Before any extraction, we’ll need an x-ray. They can be done either in house (at a cost to the patient) or Medicare bulk billed by referral to a nearby x-ray facility.
It can be nerve-racking to come to the dentist for a tooth extraction. Our approach is extremely patient-centred, ensuring your experience is as comfortable as possible. We use innovative, pain-free techniques, and most of our patients feel no pain whatsoever during their treatment.
Pain-Free Tooth Extractions
For any extraction, we can offer the procedure with local anaesthetic or in combination with relative analgesia (happy gas). By special arrangement, you can also go under general anaesthetic at a day surgery.
Aftercare pain relief is always provided by a prescription for appropriate painkillers and antibiotics if required.
With all tooth extractions, we explain the procedure to you before starting any treatment. You’ll get a full quote upfront, and we’ll wait for your verbal consent to proceed. It’s possible to prioritise your treatment to spread out the cost, and we even offer After Pay.
Our practice is well equipped to handle emergency toothaches requiring extraction. We keep emergency appointments available daily.
Wisdom teeth removal
Wisdom teeth are molar teeth that come through at the very back of the mouth, normally in the late teens or early twenties. Sometimes they end up causing problems, for example, if there isn’t enough space for them or they’re not growing out straight. They might also push and damage other teeth or develop infections from food packing. If they’re causing bite problems or pain, you might have to get a wisdom teeth removal operation at the dentist.
Sometimes wisdom teeth need difficult surgical extraction or there's the possibility of complications. In that case, we refer our patients to a local oral surgeon best suited to their needs. The decision on where to best handle the extraction is made at your initial consultation with one of our dentists.
At Camira Dental, we take pride in being trusted health professionals. We always offer our patients honest opinions, putting their welfare first. At your consultation, we won’t recommend wisdom teeth removal unless it’s necessary for health reasons.
What to expect on your visit
If you suspect you might need to visit the dentist, whether for a regular check-up or a specific problem, the first step is to give us a call. Our friendly dental assistants can help you with most inquiries, booking you in for a further consultation or treatment.
When you come in, your dentist will have a discussion with you about your needs and propose treatment. At Camira Dental, we take pride in telling the truth about patient needs, never engaging in up-selling.
You’ll get an upfront quote on the full cost of treatment before starting. If needed, it’s possible to prioritise treatment to spread out the cost. We won’t start any treatment without your verbal consent to proceed with the plan.
We use innovative pain-free techniques, providing gentle care. If you have sensitive teeth or a fear of the dentist, don’t hesitate to let our team know. We’ll do our best to make you feel comfortable during your visit.
Join our regular dental check-up scheme
At Camira Dental, we generally recommend booking in for a dental scale and clean every six months. However, this will differ based on your situation, such as how prone you might be to tooth decay or gum disease. That’s why we encourage everyone to join our regular dental check-up scheme as a way forward to good dental and general health. This way, we can monitor and maintain your oral health over time.
Please note that when you sign up the regular check-up scheme, appointments are bulk billed to your health fund (conditions apply).
